Verde Valley Medical Center’s Family Programs
During
the year, Don Nelms and his Staff work with community organizations to
provide a balance of fun and necessary items to local families. Pictured
here is the Holiday party where toys, food and fun are all part of the
gift and when the Grinch makes an appearance, well the smiles on
children and adults tell the story!
Don donates Farmers Promotional items throughout the year to the Verde
Valley Medical Center, including Farmers Calendars in English and
Spanish. The Calendars help staff teach life skills to young families
about keeping Doctor appointments and schedules. Don presented Program
Supervisor Lance Spears with Farmers Coloring Books, Calendars and the
kid’s favorite, Farmers stickers.
Don served a young man Cheese Enchiladas, Rice and Beans donated every
year for this Holiday Party by one of Don’s Restaurant Clients,
Randall’s Restaurant.
Don has a great time with people, here in costume as the Grinch,
visiting with a grandmother who appreciated his support of her children
and the Grinch helps Verde Valley Medical Center (VVMC) Volunteer “Lou”
with frames for the kid’s Santa photos.
There is a wide spectrum of reaction to the “Grinch.” These families are
all part of the Verde Valley Medical Center’s Family Programs. Don also
provides approx. 500 Farmers safety plugs each year for the families.
One small child happened to see Don remove his Grinch mask and was
fascinated by the man behind the green fur! It was a great moment and no
camera!
8TH GRADE PROMOTION BBQ CLASS OF 2009
SEDONA,
AZ- Families celebrating their 8th Graders Promotion to High School
enjoyed a delicious Promotion Punch with their Hamburgers, Hot Dogs and
Salads on May 19th before the Ceremony at Bib Park Community School.
Laughter, family slides of 8th Graders as small children, smiles and
music were all shared while families “relished” a fun meal together at
the Big Park Community School.
At the request of Big Park Community School Principal Steve Gardner,
Don & Kathy Nelms reached out to Big Park Community Businesses
to create a special celebration BBQ for 8th Graders and their families
for their Promotion Ceremony! Many Thanks to Weber’s IGA Owner Jake
Weber, Village Chevron Owner Tony Pugliano, Marketplace Cafe Owner
Michelle Moore and Southwest Foods Kristin Aldrich for their generous
donations to the Promotion BBQ!

National Night Out, Sedona, AZ 2007
Digital
photos and fingerprints are taken with the assistance of local law
enforcement agencies and sent home with families as their first step in
the Amber Alert. As Don says, "We don’t ever want a family to need this
data, but if they do, we know we’ve done our part to get our children
back where they belong."
