Community
activities are varied for me. Currently I serve as Chairman of the
Board of Trustees for the Barry County Health Department. This is an
unpaid, elected position that allows me to be involved in numerous
environmental areas that concern me deeply, as well as all sorts of
Public Health issues. The Health Department deals with everything from
Pandemic Flu Epidemics and rabies to septic systems.
I also serve the county as a supervising Judge at the polls for
virtually every election. When I first volunteered, the ballots were
paper, and we began at 05:30 am on election day, and finish the count in
our precinct at about 12:00 am the next day. We would then continue
to count ballots in surrounding precincts until 12 noon the next day
before we got any sleep. With modern methods, we go home by 7:45 pm on
election day. I have also been asked by my political party to run for
State Representative in the last election. I was flattered, but
declined since it would have required too much time away from the
agency.
