This fall, South Yuba County enters a new era. A multi-year project to develop detailed, digital flood hazard maps is nearing completion. Preliminary maps have been released and will undergo a several-month review and comment period before their final adoption later this summer. The new maps reflect current flooding risks, replacing maps that are up to 25 years old. Property owners throughout the county will have up-to-date, Internet-accessible information about their flood risk.
Residents and businesses will want to be aware of how the maps are changing, and how the changes may affect new construction and requirements for flood insurance.
