Thousands of dogs are put down every year, some because they have no homes, and some because the vet care is too expensive. The decline in our economy forces many dog owners to move somewhere that does not accept dogs, so our animal shelters have seen a spike in owners giving up their pets. Another concern is liability insurance in the event the dog bites another animal or person. All these conditions have made it harder to get dogs, especially large or "aggressive breed" dogs adopted.
